I am a “Jill-of-all-trades” type of person. My primary job is running my web-shop Ethical Pets, with my partner Joe. We sell Organic, Fair Trade and Eco pet products…. and we do it using only free software! I do a lot of graphic design and video editing, including animation, as part of this job, as well as blogging and social media. We also sell Organic pet food wholesale, and as part of this we offer free bespoke design work and technical support to our wholesale customers.
I also work with the Free Software Foundation Europe, primarily with Same Tuke on the Campaigns team – again using my design and video skills, as well as working some social media strategy and creative campaign ideas (such as the DFD cut-and-stick dove). I also run the local FSFE meeting where we run events such as cryptoparties and a free your android workshops. I also build and maintain websites for small charities and trusts, and volunteer my time and skills for community groups. I was a founding member of Flossie, the conference for women in free software, an area I also have interest in.
I write free software manuals with Mick, with a particular focus on video editing manuals, however, I have a strong interest in teaching about free software for business, for example Own Cloud and Zurmo.
While I have a keen interest in learning and problem-solving in technology, I was not originally “techie” and have only been working in Free Software for a few years. I feel it is important to maintain my understanding of what it was like to be an absolute beginner, even though my skills have grown considerably. I am also Dyslexic and have an interest in accessible computing.
